At The Village Practice we are proud to be recognised as a Training Practice. This means we are actively involved in the education and development of the next generation of healthcare professionals. By supporting doctors and other trainees in their learning journey, we also ensure our practice stays up to date with the latest knowledge and best practices in patient care.
What is a Training Practice?
A training practice is a GP surgery that is approved to support the clinical training of doctors and other healthcare professionals. We work closely with regional medical schools and the NHS training schemes to provide placements and real-world experience for:
- GP Registrars – Fully qualified doctors who are undertaking their final stage of specialist training to become independent General Practitioners. They are closely supervised and have regular teaching and review sessions with experienced GPs.
- Foundation Year Doctors (FY2) – These doctors are in their second year of postgraduate medical training and may be gaining experience in general practice as part of their rotation.
- Medical Students – University students studying medicine who join us on placement to observe consultations, learn about patient care, and practice their clinical skills under supervision.
- Student Nurses, Physician Associates, and Other Health Professionals in Training – We may also support a range of other learners who benefit from seeing how primary care works in real-life settings.
What Does This Mean for Our Patients?
- You may be offered an appointment with a trainee clinician, such as a GP Registrar or FY2 doctor. They are fully qualified doctors and are always supervised by a senior GP within the practice.
- Sometimes, your consultation may be observed by a medical student or nurse in training. We will always ask for your consent before this happens.
- Occasionally, consultations may be video recorded for educational purposes. If this is ever requested, you will be fully informed, and your consent will be required before any recording takes place. You are under no obligation to agree and your care will not be affected in any way if you choose not to take part.
- Our involvement in training keeps our whole team motivated and engaged in continuous learning, which benefits the entire practice and our patients.
Why is Training Important?
By offering a high-quality training environment, we are:
- Investing in the future of the NHS
- Helping to address the shortage of GPs and healthcare workers
- Bringing fresh perspectives and energy into the practice
- Maintaining high clinical standards through teaching and supervision
We believe that training the next generation of healthcare professionals is not only a responsibility but a privilege. Your support in this process plays an important role, and we thank you for being a part of it.
