Prescribing Policy Agreement

Welcome To The Village Practice

We would like to welcome you at the Village Practice as a new patient. The Village Practice is a busy, friendly GP surgery serving approximately 9,000 patients. We aim to provide safe, effective care in line with national guidelines. To support this, we have a zero-tolerance policy toward abuse of any kind. Patients in breach of this policy will be removed from our list.

Important Prescribing Information for New Patients

To ensure safe prescribing, we require an up-to-date medication list from your previous GP. Once received, we will update your records to enable prescription requests. Please ensure you have at least 7 days’ supply of medication from your previous GP (note: prescriptions take 48 hours to process).

Our Prescribing Policy

For patient safety and in line with clinical guidelines, we do not routinely prescribe the following medications for non-cancer pain or long-term use due to risks of strong dependence, side effects, or limited evidence of benefit:

Strong opioids

  Oramorph/Morphine, Codeine, Dihydrocodeine, Tramadol

Benzodiazepines & ‘Z-drug’ sleeping tablets

Diazepam, Lorazepam, Loprazolam, Nitrazepam, Temazepam, Zopiclone

Gabapentinoids

  Gabapentin, Pregabalin

If you are currently taking any of these medications, our clinicians will work with you to create a personalised reduction plan. This will involve a gradual, agreed taper to minimise withdrawal effects, supported by alternative treatments where appropriate. A signed agreement may be set up to ensure shared understanding.

We would like to inform you that, unfortunately, we are unable to enter into shared care arrangements for the prescribing or monitoring of ADHD Medications. At present, our clinicians do not provide routine prescribing for ADHD under shared care protocols. If you are currently under the care of a specialist for ADHD, you will need to continue to receive your prescriptions and medication reviews through your specialist service.

We understand this may be disappointing, and we recommend discussing your ongoing treatment needs with your ADHD specialist team to ensure your care continues without interruption. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need clarification or support regarding this matter.

By registering with us, you acknowledge this policy and agree to engage with reduction plans if applicable. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to supporting your health.
